Seminar P4Health: Lecture by Prof. Agnieszka Chacińska

Łukasiewicz – PORT Polish Center for Technology Development invites you to a lecture by Prof. Agnieszka Chacińska, group leader and Director of IMol – the International Institute of Molecular Mechanisms and Machines, Polish Academy of Sciences.

The lecture titled “Protein translocation into mitochondria under stress” will take place on Tuesday, 23 January 2025, from 14:30 to 15:30.

After the lecture, there will be a Q&A session with Young Researchers, scheduled for 15:30–16:00. This will be an excellent opportunity to discuss Prof. Chacińska’s research, receive career advice, and learn how to avoid common pitfalls and bottlenecks in scientific work.

About the Speaker

Prof. Agnieszka Chacińska graduated from the Faculty of Biology at the University of Warsaw. She obtained her PhD in biochemistry from the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences under the supervision of Prof. Magdalena Boguta, and later earned her habilitation degree at the same institute. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship with Prof. Nikolaus Pfanner and subsequently served as a junior group leader at the University of Freiburg in Germany. Since 2009, she has led the Mitochondrial Biogenesis Laboratory, established at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, and currently operating within IMol PAS.

Her scientific interests focus on cell biochemistry and the molecular aspects of cell biology, including mitochondrial protein biogenesis, transport, and degradation, as well as mitochondrial dysfunction leading to disease. Over the past 10 years, one of Prof. Chacińska’s key achievements has been identifying the interplay between defective mitochondrial protein import, other mitochondrial deficiencies, and cellular protein homeostasis, along with the underlying molecular mechanisms.

She is a laureate of numerous awards and prestigious grants, including the ReMedy project funded by the Foundation for Polish Science under the International Research Agendas Programme, the Welcome Grant of the Foundation for Polish Science, and the Maestro Grant of the National Science Centre. She is a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, an elected member of the European Molecular Biology Organization, Academia Europaea, and Germany’s National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. She received the title of professor from the President of Poland in 2014.

The lecture will be available onsite at Łukasiewicz – PORT (147 Stabłowicka Street, Wrocław) or online via the SAME-Match-Treat platform (P4Health Seminar with Prof. Agnieszka Chacińska | SAME-Match-Treat).

The first seminar in the P4Health – Teaming project series!

This seminar is part of a lecture series under the P4Health – Teaming for Excellence project, funded by the Horizon Europe programme. The P4Health project, aimed at advancing personalized medicine in Poland, seeks to integrate preclinical and clinical research to bring laboratory discoveries closer to medical practice. This initiative strengthens collaboration with leading institutions across Europe, fostering breakthrough innovations in medicine.
